Sep 01, 2009 (newstodate): Sweden's Jonkoping Axamo Airport remains upbeat about its performance in 2009, despite economic and financial crisis.
And the enthusiasm is further spurred by the fact that the airport will change ownership from state to commune by the turn of the year, opening up for new and more aggressive marketing of the airport, not least regarding air cargo and logistics.
-At Jonkoping air cargo business contributes 75 percent of total turnover, so this segment has the full attention of the management and is destined to play a leading role in the airport's future development, says Herman Larsson, Jonkoping Airport marketing manager.
-So far into 2009 cargo volumes at the airport are actually on a par with last year. We lost the freighter traffic by Icelandair Cargo due to unfavorable market fluctuations, but this has been compensated by a strong increase in express and logistics movement that benefit from short ground handling times and fast access to market.
-Among the latest positive news is the cooperation between time:matters and Jetpak, with shipments now transported by an Amapola Fokker 50 aircraft instead of by the smaller SAAB 340 freighter earlier used. Besides that Jonkoping Axamo Airport was selected by Post Sweden Logistics as a new mini-hub from 2007, Amapola and West Air Sweden operate five weekly night operations between Jonkoping Airport and Gothenburg, Malmoe, Sundsvall, Umeaa and Arlanda, and TNT Sweden established its new regional hub at Jonkoping Axamo Airport from June 2, 2008, operating flights to and from Brussels with connections to Oslo, Billund and Helsinki.
-From the start of the new period with communal owners we will embark on a dynamic marketing strategy to bolster to position of Jonkoping Axamo Airport, says Mr Larsson.
