Sep 29,2009 (newstodate): Operators of the Soviet-built AN-26 freighter may again breathe freely as the future of the aircraft in EU has now been secured.
Following EASA's recommendations, the EU Commission has granted full type licensing of the AN-26 to continue operations within EU.
The issue has long been on the agenda, and it was earlier reported that EU might eventually grant only a limited license, exempting engines and APU.
The dateline for the EU Commission's decision was yesterday, September 28, 2009.
