Sep 25, 2009 (newstodate): The successor to the Austrian investment company Meinl Airports, AI Airports has put the Russian airport Ulan-Ude Mukhino Airport up for sale.
The sale is a consequence of the strategic decision to leave the airport investments segments entirely.
In September, 2007, Meinl Airport International acquired a 100 percent stake from the KrasAir owners in the Mukhino Airport in Ulan Ude, Russia, and intended to invest heavily in the airport's development.
The transaction was the first case of sale of a Russian airport to a foreign company.
The planned investments never took place, however, and a new owner will face the task of defining a future role for the airport that generates only 150,000 passenger annually.
Earlier plans included the construction of a new runway, extension of the current 3,000 m runway, and new passenger facilities to increase the capacity to handling of one mio passengers.
