Sep 22, 2009 (newstodate): Russia's Moscow Vnukovo Airport has commissioned its new cargo cargo complex, poised to become one of Russia's largest cargo terminals.
The new terminal, with a capacity of handling up to 150,000 tonnes of cargo annually, performed its first commercial operation on September 18, 2009, and is now fully operational with first customers including Yakutia Airlines, Kavminvodavia and Orenburg Airlines.
The new cargo terminal is fully equipped with modern IT tools and systems and capable of handling all types of cargo including perishables, DIP, VAL, Dangerous Goods, live animals as well as mail shipments, and is located immediately adjoining the capital's rail and highway infrastructure.
In the first seven months of this year, Moscow Vnukovo Airport handled a total of 16,134 tonnes of cargo, including 1,697 tonnes of international cargo and 14,437 tonnes of domestic cargo.
