Sep 25, 2009 (newstodate): The official commissioning of the redeveloped runway at Yekaterinburg Koltsovo Airport has run into delays.
The authorities of Sverdlovsk Region have established that the contractor for the runway development has failed to produce the required documentation of certain issues, and the commissioning of the work has therefore been put on hold.
The refurbished runway is crucial to the airport's ambitions of attaining capabilities to handle large aircraft including the Boeing 747-400 and Airbus A380.
From August 2009 the airport is certified to handle aircraft types including Airbus A320, Boeing 737, Boeing 747, and Airbus A330.
