Sep 30, 2009 (newstodate): A Russian carrier may be the next operator of Lufthansa Group's fleet of Bombardier CRJ aircraft, soon to be phased out by the airline.
The potential buyer may reportedly be UTAir that has aired interest in taking on 10 CRJ 100/200 aircraft from Lufthansa, with options for a further five aircraft.
As the aircraft would be imported by the Russian airline as used aircraft, they would be exempt from Russia's taxation on imported new aircraft.
If successful in the bidding, UTAir would replace its fleet of ageing TU-134 aircraft with more fuel-efficient CRJ aircraft.
In the fleet of UTAir are today 32 TU-134 aircraft as well as 21 TU-154 aircraft, all slated for retirement by 2015, at the latest.
In the Lufthansa Group, Lufthansa CityLine operates a total of 22 Bombardier CRJ 100/200 aircraft.
