Sep 08, 2009 (newstodate): More and more point-to-point traffic by low-cost carriers and legacy airlines is changing the picture of Poland's airport infrastructure that has seen passenger volumes increasing by 134 percent from 2004 to 2008.
While the country's capital airport, Warsaw Frederic Chopin Airport handled 61 percent of all passengers through Poland's airports, the proportion had declined to 45.5 percent in 2008, while the proportion of the country's 11 regional airport increased correspondingly.
Current estimates by the country's CAA are that 41 million passengers will be handled in Poland by 2024, increasing to 85 million by 2030, when Warsaw's airport's proportion will decline further to about 30 percent.
To cope with the situation, Poland is now upgrading its airport infrastructure including both regional and international airports.
