Sep 22, 2009 (newstodate): Plans are finally moving ahead for construction of a new airport at Trebinje, in Republika Srpska in Bosnia & Herzegovina.
A feasibility study has been produced by Airport Consulting Vienna that finds a viable basis for the proposed airport, close to Croatia's Dubrovnik Airport and Montenegro's Tivat Airport.
In the plans is construction of a 2,600 m runway to be completed by the end of 2010.
When completed, the airport will especially seek to attract European low-cost traffic, offering a catchment area extending northwards as far as Split, directly competing with Split International Airport, as well as southwards towards the Albanian border, providing a frequent domestic air-shuttle between Trebinje and the main European hub airports as well as a dense point-to-point route network, according to the project description.
