Sep 09, 2009 (newstodate): Finnair is keen on cutting costs and fine-tuning its route network to optimize operations.
As one result of the ongoing efforts to oversee the network, the carrier has decided not to re-open flights to Mumbai, India, from the coming winter schedule.
Flights by Finnair between Helsinki and Mumbai were suspended on April 29, 2009, and plans were to start again from October 16, 2009. But the airline has now decided to postpone the re-opening of services to Mumbai till at least spring, 2010.
Only last autumn plans were to consider the opening of a third Indian destination as well as seeking cooperation with an Indian partner to provide connections to intra-Indian flights.
Flight to Mumbai were launched on June 26, 2007, while Delhi became Finnair's first Indian destination from November 1, 2006.
