Sep 23, 2009 (newstodate): As in the other Nordic markets, Finland's air cargo has felt the impact from the current world economic crisis.
-But apart from this obvious negative trend in today's environment, markets are usually changing from year to year. This has been the case in Finland as well, says Kay Wichmann, Lufthansa Cargo director Nordic & Baltic countries.
-However, for Lufthansa Cargo the Finnish market has performed quite nicely so far into 2009, and especially June and July were quite normal months for us and we have seen sustained improvement also since then.
-Finnair is of course a strong competitor in the air cargo market that is marked by a traditional loyalty towards the national carrier from shippers and forwarders. Especially on the Asian and Japanese traffic Finnair is hard to compete with in its home market.
-But having said that, we have actually gained two to three percentage-points in market share in 2009, says Mr Wichmann.
