Sep 25, 2009 (newstodate): Passing its 10th year of operations in 2009, the Outsourcing Department at Denmark's Cargo Center Billund is noting a marked success for its business idea.
-Our aim is to add value to airfreight forwarders' cooperation with Cargo Center Billund, and this has taken on many different forms and shapes according to customers' demands and needs, says Kenneth Pedersen, Cargo Center Billund Outsourcing Dept head.
-The idea is basically to support forwarders' own warehouses with extra or special capacity when needed, or to enable forwarders to entirely close down their own warehouses by outsourcing all warehouse handling to us.
-Our range of services is flexible and fully capable of answering to any requirement involved in readying shipments for delivery to the airport's cargo terminal,which includes pick-and pack, packaging, labelling, icing, documentation and print-outs of papers including AWBs etc.
-Our customer portfolio currently comprises 55 airfreight forwarders, a handful of which have outsourced their entire warehousing to us, while the remainder contract us for defined services. As far as we know we are the only service provider of this kind anywhere in the world of air cargo, says Mr Pedersen.
With a staff of 15, the Outsourcing Dept in 2008 handled a total of 18,000 tonnes of air cargo spread over 25,000 shipments and packed as 723,000 colli.
