Sep 23, 2009 (newstodate): The Armenian carrier Armavia is focusing on pilot training programs to prepare for the introduction of new aircraft.
Some 25 candidates are currently undergoing training to pilot the CRJ-200 and airbus A320 aircraft, as well as the Russian Superjet 100 aircraft.
Armavia will be the first airline to operate the Superjet, with first delivery in December 2009, and the next to follow by early 2010.
Also the second CRJ-200 aircraft will be delivered to Armavia in December, 10 days after the arrival of the first Superjet.
The carrier expects to open new routes in 2010 and has promised that the carrier's first 1 millionth passenger will be presented with a Mercedes car!
So far into 2009 the airline has celebrated its 500,000th passenger in September and expects to land around 700,000 passengers by year-end.
