Sep 17, 2009 (newstodate): Russian and some Baltic media are circulating news that the Latvian carrier airBaltic is closing down operations to 10 destinations - but airBaltic is vehemently refuting the allegations.
Rumors are that the carrier should close down flights from Riga to destinations including Tel Aviv, Baku, Kaunas, Almaty, Yerevan, Dushanbe, Tashkent, and Istanbul.
-On the contrary! airBaltic will continue servicing Tashkent, Dushanbe, Istanbul, Tel Aviv also throughout the winter season, says Janis Vargas, airBaltic VP corporate communications.
-Such typical summer destinations as Almaty, Baku and Yerevan remain in the destination map of airBaltic and flights to these cities will resume in spring 2010 as every year.
-In winter, airBaltic will also serve the new destinations announced earlier this year Frankfurt, Warsaw, Pskov, Turku, Tromso, Palanga, Kaunas, Geneva, Tartu, and the winter season will also see the new flights between Tallinn and Turku, the first Estonia-Finland link in the history of airBaltic.
-To meet the growing demand in the market, flight frequencies will be added on a number of routes, including flights to Tartu, Aalesund, Oulu, Tampere, Turku, and Pskov, says Mr Vargas.
