Sep 11, 2009 (newstodate): Once a major operator of IL-76 freighter charter flights lifting Norwegian fresh salmon to the Asian markets, Aeroflot-Cargo is now restrained to belly capacity on Aeroflot passenger aircraft to Moscow.
-We do not today see a basis for a pure freighter operation from Norway to Asia via Moscow, says Anette Holten Bekkestad, Director, GSA-Norway Sales and Marketing, responsible for Aeroflot-Cargo sales in Scandinavia.
-We take whatever we can of the belly capacity on Aeroflot's daily Airbus A319 or A320 aircraft services to Moscow, and if we had access to more capacity we could surely take more salmon with us. But I doubt a dedicated freighter service would be feasible.
-Today we truck salmon export shipments into Aeroflot-Cargo MD-11F services from Helsinki to Moscow, and that works perfectly well. Alternatively, we can also truck into Aeroflot-Cargo's hub at Frankfurt-Hahn Airport.
-Despite the general downturn in the industry, Aeroflot-Cargo's volumes in the Norwegian market are rather stable, with little change in 2009, says Ms Holten Bekkestad.
Aeroflot-Cargo did however plan for a return of its freighter services to the Norwegian market in 2008, scheduling for one weekly MD-11F flight from Oslo Gardermoen Airport to Tokyo for Norwegian salmon exporters.
