Sep 16, 2009 (newstodate): Europe's first two operators of the Airbus A380 are preparing for the launch of services in 2009 and 2010, respectively.
First to lift-off with the Airbus A380 will be Air France that will introduce the aircraft in commercial service from November 23, 2009, offering two daily flights between Paris and New York six days a week.
Next to follow is Lufthansa that will put the A380 into commercial service from the start of next year's summer schedule on heavily-travelled routes to Asia and North America.
Air France has placed orders for a total of 12 A380, with options for a further two units, while Lufthansa will receive a total of 15 Airbus A380, with options for a further 10 aircraft.
In the air already are a total of 19 Airbus A319, including five with Emirates, four with Qantas, and 10 with Singapore Airlines - the first commercial carrier to operate the mega-jumbo.
Airbus has so far booked a total of 200 orders for the aircraft from 16 customers, including one aircraft in VIP configuration for the use of Prince Al-Walid.
Emirates is so far the single largest customer with orders for a total of 58 Airbus A380 aircraft.
