Aug 18, 2009 (newstodate): Effective from September 1, 2009, Singapore Airlines Cargo will re-introduce freighter flights between Denmark and the USA.
The carrier will operate a weekly Boeing 747-400 freighter service from Copenhagen Airport to Chicago and Dallas Fort Worth, offering up to 120 tonnes of capacity shared with Brussels from where the flight originates.
-Scandinavian exporters have at their disposal a wide range of all-cargo flights to most countries in the Middle East and Far East. However, no similar operation is currently being offered from Scandinavia to the USA. We are therefore rather confident that we shall be able to fill this gap in the market, says Kim Irmov, Singapore Airlines Cargo Singapore Airlines Cargo regional manager Nordic and Baltic region.
-With this new service we offer exporters and forwarders to close their weekly shipment programs on Friday afternoon at all Scandinavian gateways, and shipments can still reach Chicago by Saturday night. From Chicago, we offer trucking services to a wide range of destinations, enabling shipments to be ready for customs clearance by Monday morning already, says Mr Irmov.
Singapore Airlines Cargo last operated freighter traffic from Copenhagen to Chicago from 2005, but services, then shared with SAS Cargo, were suspended from September 2007, and since then the Scandinavian markets have had no dedidated freighter service to the USA despite the fact that Chicago has invariably been among the most important IATA export air cargo destinations in Denmark and Sweden.
Singapore Airlines Cargo operates an extensive flight schedule between Copenhagen and Singapore, comprising four weekly B747400 freighter flights supplemented by belly-hold capacity in three weekly Boeing 777 passenger flights.
