Aug 21, 2009 (newstodate): Only low-cost airlines seem to have cause for optimism in the Ukrainean market during the ongoing crisis.
The Ukrainean state agency for aviation finds passengers volumes in Ukraine down by 18.4 percent, and cargo and mail volumes down by 25.6 percent during the first half of this year.
Some Ukrainean airlines report that volumes on certain routes have dropped 20-25 percent, while the Asian routes have been hit by a decline by up to 50 percent, y-o-y.
In Ukraine, industrial estimates by legacy carriers are that the recovery will start not earlier than by mid-2010, and the effects from the current crisis will not be fully eliminated before 2014.
