Aug 31, 2009 (newstodate): Turkish operator TAV's contract for the take-over of two Macedonian airport as winner of last year's tender has now been confirmed to take effect from August 31, 2009.
TAV will be responsible for construction and management of the airports comprised by the contract for a 20-year period, and the new effective date of the concession contract is determined as March 1, 2010.
On September 29, 2008, TAV Macedonia DOOEL Skopje and the Ministry of Transport and Communication of Macedonia signed the 20-year contract for concession and operation of Skopje Alexander the Great Airport, Ohrid St. Paul the Apostle Airport, and the construction of the New Cargo Airport in Shtip.
Behind the delays compared to the original contract are the effect from the current economical crisis and the downturn in world aviation.
