Aug 14, 2009 (newstodate): Russia's third low-cost airline, Avianova is preparing for its launch of commercial operations from August 27, 2009.
Formerly known as A1, Avianova will lift off from Moscow Vnukovo Airport on August 27, heading for its first flight to Sochi, and the opening of new routes from Moscow to Rostov-on-Don, Krasnodar, Samara, Astrakhan and other destinations will follow in the days after.
The carrier, headed by Vladimir Gorbunov as general manager, will start out with two leased ex-US Airways Airbus A320 aircraft, and plans to add two more A320 before the end of the year.
All aircraft will be maintained under a five-year contract with Sabena Technics.
First to introduce low-cost operations in Russia was Sky Express, in the air since January 29, 2007, followed by the Russian carrier Red Wings Airlines from later the same year.
