Aug 14, 2009 (newstodate): Norway's Oslo Gardermoen Airport may be seeing the first vague signs of turnings trends in its latest cargo statistics covering the year till July, 2009.
In July a total of 6,238 tonnes of cargo and mail was handled - a decrease by 12 percent, y-o-y.
For the period of January-July, 2009, the decline was, however, 17.3 percent, y-o-y, volumes totaling 45,814 tonnes.
In July international cargo was 3,697 tonnes, down 18.3 percent, while domestic cargo was 2,691 tonnes, down only 1.3 percent which was the smallest percentage decrease so far in 2009.
In the first seven months of 2009 the airport's total cargo included 27,441 tonnes of international cargo, down 23.4 percent, and 18,374 tonnes of domestic cargo, down only 6.2 percent.
The relative improvement in the airport's cargo performance noticeable from July is thus primarily driven by domestic activities.
