Aug 17, 2009 (newstodate): Northern Germany's Hamburg Airport took its share of the general downturn in air cargo during this year's first half.
During January-June, 2009, the airport handled a total of 30,724 tonnes of cargo, down 19.8 percent, y-o-y, flown and trucked cargo included.
Totals include imports, 15,645 tonnes and down 25.7 percent, and exports, 15,075 tonnes and down 21.9 percent.
The situation was, however, improving in June when the airport handled a total of 5,547 tonnes which was a decline by 13.9 percent, y-o-y.
In June imports dropped 18.1 percent to 2,836 tonnes, while exports - 2,710 tonnes - were down "only" 9.2 percent, y-o-y.
During the period, the airport lost almost all of its mail volumes, down 99.8 percent, to only 5,7 tonnes.
