Aug 21, 2009 (newstodate): The Norwegian LCC Norwegian is planning to add a new route from Denmark's Copenhagen Airport to the UAE.
Effective from October 31, 2009, the carrier will offer a weekly flight between Copenhagen and Dubai with its latest aircraft, Boeing 737-800 lifting up to 186 passengers.
-This aircraft offers us the opportunity to operate both medium and long range flights, but while we may consider opening also other longer routes out of Copenhagen, the flight to Dubai will probably be the longest with this aircraft, says Daniel Skjeldam, Norwegian VP commercial.
The carrier will not include air cargo in the concept for the new route as it would entail a penalty on fuel and passenger loads on the seven-hour flight.
With the opening of the route to Dubai Norwegian will compete head-on with SAS that already operates three weekly flights between the two destinations during the winter schedule.
Norwegian already operates direct flights to Dubai from Oslo, Norway, and Stockholm, Sweden.
Emirates also considered opening flights between Dubai and Copenhagen already from 2005, but plans were stalled from 2007 without reference to any cartoons.
