Aug 18, 2009 (newstodate): Taking effect from 2010, Kazakhstan will ban operations in the country of Soviet-built Antonov and Yakovlev aircraft.
Kazakh airline operators have largely changed their aircraft fleets to comprise primarily western-built aircraft, and the ministry of transportation claims that 85 percent of all passenger and cargo traffic is now performed with Airbus and Boeing aircraft.
This has, however, put great stress on the continued modernisation of the country's 15 international airports, and modernisation projects are currently being undertaken at 10 of these.
On the agenda now for coming projects are the airports of Petropavlovsk, Kostanay, Kokshetau and Kyzylorda.
