Aug 18, 2009 (newstodate): The Icelandic cargo GSSA Cargo Express is seeing sustained good results from its freighter operation launched on March 11, 2009.
Named Cargo Express, the Boeing 767 freighter service from New York to Keflavik, Iceland, and from there to Liege, Belgium, is operated two times weekly in cooperation with ABX Air.
-Traditionally, the summer months are slow in exports out of Iceland, but traffic will start picking up now, says Robert Tomasson, Cargo Express managing director and one of the company's founders.
-In the first four months we have moved about 800 tonnes on the freighter service, mostly seafood going to the French and Benelux markets, and we are optimistic for the the upcoming fall and winter season, says Mr Tomasson.
In addition to the freighter capacity, Cargo Express is also selling the belly capacity of Iceland Express and this has developed well, primarily due to very regular shipments of seafood to the UK and Continental Europe, according to Mr Tomasson.
