Aug 26, 2009 (newstodate): After 12 years of service, the Greek carrier Olympic Airways is pulling out from its route between Athens and Moscow.
With its last flight on September 29, 2009, Olympic Airlines will retreat from the Moscow route, and charter flights from Athens to St Petersburg will also cease, and the airline's office in Moscow will be closed as well.
The decision is due to the sale of Olympic Airlines to the Marfin Investment Group, confirmed by EU in March this year.
As part of the details, the "new" Olympic Airlines will let go 35 percent of the former route network, causing the cancellation of serviceds to Russia as well as other markets.
