Aug 13, 2009 (newstodate): Finnair Cargo has plans for segmentation of its cargo product, currently offering only general cargo sales in the belly holds of the airline's passenger aircraft fleet.
-With the current market situation which abounds in excess capacity the timing is not right, but we will in the future launch a package of segmented cargo products including premium, normal general cargo, and stand-by cargo, says Erkka Suvikumpu, Finnair Cargo VP business development, IT & marketing.
-The product range will however not comprise a dedicated express cargo product as was offered by Finnair Cargo till some two years ago. A dedicated express cargo product requires a special infrastructure and resources, and this market is adequately served by other providers including integrators.
-When the market rebounds, segmentation of the products will allow us to better capitalize on our prime resource: belly capacity on aircraft serving Finnair's extensive route network, especially the routes between Northern Europe and Asia and short transfer times through our hub at Helsinki, says Mr Suvikumpu.
