Aug 25, 2009 (newstodate): Almost 4,000 airlines and other parties in the global aviation industry have been listed by EU to be forced to participate in EU's emissions trading scheme from 2012.
The list will be updated annually and comprises commercial airlines, private charter or business jet operators, aircraft manufacturers and even air forces.
All aircraft that operate to and from EU will be covered by the requirtement to meet EU's stringent emissions trading scheme or face heavy penalties and outright banning from EU airspace and airports.
On the list are more than 100 Russian airlines as well as almost all international airlines at all.
Airlines must start monitoring their engine emissions already from January, and they must then register with the EU aviation authorities before August 31, 2009, providing details on how they intend to monitor and report emissions.
