Aug 3, 2009 (newstodate): The MRO provider Air Maintenance Estonia, based at Tallinn Airport, has so far managed the turbulence from the general industrial downturn and is even hopeful about plans for a new maintenance hangar.
-We are keen on cost reductions and are working hard to come through this demanding time. Airlines are flying less and this of course reduces the market for maintenance, but on the other hand we have succeeded in landing contracts with aircraft leasing companies that still need to have their aircraft inspected when delivered back from airlines, and we have currently three aircraft, owned by leasing companies, parked here after inspections and awaiting new airline lessors, says Lars-Olof Bolinder, Air Maintenance Estonia managing director.
-We have also been contracted by Lithuania's new carrier Star1 that is now operating one Boeing 737-700 and plans to increase its fleet, providing base and line maintenance at Vilnius Airport where we have allocated two aircraft technicians.
-But despite the tough times we are still moving ahead with plans for construction of a new maintenance hangar at Tallinn Airport, and we hope to settle the remaining issue of financing in time to allow us to start construction work later this autumn already, says Mr Bolinder.
