Aug 25, 2009 (newstodate): Tartu, Estonia's second-largest city, now has direct air connection to both Riga, Latvia, and Stockholm, Sweden.
Following on airBaltic's launch of their new service four times weekly with Fokker 50 aircraft, connecting Tartu to the carrier's transfer hub at Riga Airport from July 3, 2009, Estonian Air is second to provide new air services.
Launching its service between Tartu and Stockholm with SAAB 340 aircraft operated by Estonian Air Regional on August 24, 2009, Estonian Air now provides four weekly flights on the route that feeds into the route network of SAS.
Tartu Airport, with a 1,800 m runway, has had no scheduled flights for years but demand for air travel is great due to the city's many educational institutions.
