Aug 20, 2009 (newstodate): e-freight is taking shape in the Icelandic air cargo market.
-We have been somewhat delayed through the summer season, but the e-freight implementation process is up and running, and we hope to be able to launch e-fright operations on a trial basis on the first lane from within one or two months, says Bertel Olafsson, Icelandair Cargo Manager Cargo Systems, who is heading the process.
-We have designated the route between Keflavik and Amsterdam to serve as the lane for our first tests with one Icelandic forwarder, Jonar. As experience builds, more lanes will be opened and hopefully more forwarders will join the process, says Mr Olafsson.
No definite deadline for the full implementation of e-freight in Iceland has yet been set, but end of year has earlier been indicated as the time frame.
