Aug 04, 2009 (newstodate): The Finnish export air cargo market is seeing difficult times, with volumes declining about 30 percent during the first half of this year.
In May alone, Finland's total freight volumes dropped by 41.1 percent, y-o-y, including all modes of transportation, with sea freight suffering even stronger than air transportation.
-We are of course noting the same decline in volumes as everyone else in the Finnish market, but while the first six months of 2009 were marked by sustained downturn, we are now maybe seeing the first indications of a possible reversal in some markets at least, says Kenneth Andersson, Kales Airline Services Finland.
-Most significantly the Chinese market seems to be recovering, and at least the rate of monthly decline is easing somewhat. We will of course have to see if this trend established itself more clearly in the coming months.
-North America is another important airfreight market, but we are still to see signs of recovery here, says Mr Andersson.
Among Kales' major airline customers in Finland are Martinair, China Airlines, Air China, and Continental Airlines.
