Aug 24, 2009 (newstodate): Doubts have arisen over the continued plans by Ryanair to establish Riga Airport, in Latvia, as a new Baltic hub.
The changed position is reportedly due to a recent change in the airport's charges that may be detriment to the efforts to lure Ryanair to bolster its presence in Latvia.
To support Ryanair's plans for Riga, the Latvian government has pledged to be willing to invest in the construction of a new Boeing 737 aircraft maintenance facility, and the carrier that launched flights from Riga in October 2004 contributes significantly to the airport's passenger volumes.
Cooler relations with Ryanair may also have a negative impact on the estimates behind the airport's current plans for construction of a new passenger terminal.
