Aug 11, 2009 (newstodate): Latvia's Riga Airport has turned the trend in its air cargo volumes, emerging as the fastest-growing airport among the three Baltic states, albeit only second largest in the region.
During the first seven months of this year, Riga handled a total of 4,934 tonnes of cargo - an increase by 37.7 percent, y-o-y.
Estonia's Tallinn Airport retained its position as the largest cargo airport in the region, with 10,994 tonnes of cargo during the same period. But here the trend is strongly negative, with a decrease by 54.4 percent, y-o-y.
Lithuania's Vilnius Airport is at a low point, with only 2,323 tonnes of cargo during January-July, 2009. This is a decrease by 29.3 percent, y-o-y.
In July, Riga Airport handled 730 tonnes of cargo, up 12.6 percent, y-o-y, Tallinn Airport handled 1,168 tonnes of cargo, down 66 percent, and Vilnius Airport handled 353 tonnes of cargo, down 25.4 percent, y-o-y.
