Jul 28, 2009 (newstodate): The change of ownership of Sweden's Jonkoping Axamo Airport from state to commune has now been formally sealed by the payment of the full price asked: one Swedish Krone.
From December 1, 209, the airport will be owned by Jonkoping commune after more than 50 years of state ownership.
With its new owners, the airport plans to intensify its marketing efforts significantly to attract new airline business, including cargo traffic.
In 2007, Jonkoping Axamo Airport was selected by Post Sweden Logistics as a new mini-hub, and since May 2007 postal flights are operated through Jonkoping to relieve the pressure on Stockholm Arlanda that is Post Sweden Logistics' main hub.
time:matters and Jetpak are also users of the airport, with shipments transported by an Amapola Fokker 50 aircraft.
The airport has also seen freighter traffic by Icelandair Cargo lifting loads of Icelandic horses into the Scandinavian market through Jonkoping Axamo Airport - a traffic that is currently not operated as the market has dropped temporarily during times of economic downturn.
