Jul 29, 2009 (newstodate): With the last east-bound departure on October 2, 2009, Sweden's Stockholm Arlanda will lose Malaysian Airlines as an on-line customer.
With a first flight on November 2, 2004, Malaysian Airlines put Stockholm on its route map as a point on its route served three times weekly with Boeing 777 aircraft between Malaysia and New York, USA.
The carrier cites poor market demand as the cause for suspension of services, and will keep an off-line office in Stockholm to serve the Scandinavian markets.
Already in 2006 the carrier aired doubts about the route to Stockholm, intending to pull out from January 15, 2007.
-Our decision was guided by the initial findings from our route profitability exercise. However, in response to a call from the government to reconsider our decision, we reviewed this route, Idris Jala, Malaysia Airlines managing director and CEO then told the press.
