Jul 30, 2009 (newstodate): Pending the outcome of exploration of marketing opportunities for long-haul air freight out of the Scandinavian market, the Sundt Atlanta Skybridge Boeing 747-200F aircraft has left Oslo Gardermoen for some weeks at least to earn its money elsewhere.
The aircraft was allocated by Air Atlanta Icelandic on a lease contract with its JV-partner Sundt Air at Oslo by the end of June, but it is now being operated on behalf of one of Air Atlanta Icelandic's existing airline customers, MAS Cargo that needs extra capacity for a period.
The JV-parties have set up a working group to assess the market for a scheduled trans-Atlantic service from Norway to New York or Miami to lift the increasing export volumes of fresh Norwegian salmon into the US market.
Also under investigation is the market for imports to Scandinavia of US products, including notably perishables, and the freighter may also provide uplift capacity for customers in the other Nordic markets if a demand is identified.
A final decision on the future of the joint-venture may be expected by September or October, 2009.
