Jun 22, 2009 (newstodate): The Russian president has now signed the decree to transfer ownership of Omsk Airport to the regional government.
The transfer of ownership will allow for the realisation of plans to complete the building of a new airport, Omsk Fedorovka Airport, to replace the existing Omsk Tsentralny Airport now serving the region.
The Omsk Fedorovka Airport is already 60 percent finished, but the project has been stalled for years due to lack of financial means.
The airport project is embedded in the Russian federal plans, Modernisation of the Transport System in Russia 2002-2010, and will play a crucial role in the planned set-up of a multi-modal transport complex around Omsk.
The Omsk Fedorovka Airport is now slated to be commissioned by 2012.
