Jun 26, 2009 (newstodate): Lithuania is to see the launch of a new airline to fill the void left by the demise of the former national carrier flyLAL in January, 2009.
Star1 Airlines was established in 2009 when the holding company Star Team Group purchased the company HC Airways for the purpose of promoting and developing the inbound and outbound tourism in Lithuania.
Star1 Airlines has leased a Boeing 737-700 aircraft and launched charter flights in June, to be followed by the opening of regular scheduled flights from Vilnius Airport to London, Dublin and Barcelona from July.
The carrier will operate four weekly flights to London starting from July 3, three weekly flights to Dublin from July 4, and two weekly flights to Girona/Barcelona from July 5, 2009.
Star1 Airlines will receive its second Boeing 737-700 aircraft later this summer, facilitating the opening of news route from Vilnius to Paris and Milan and increasing flight frequencies on the route to London.
