Jun 17, 2009 (newstodate): A new freighter service is to be launched in the Norwegian market.
Expectedly from the end of this week, an Air Atlanta Boeing 747-200F aircraft will be stationed at Oslo Gardermoen Airport in a joint-venture with the Norwegian VIP flight provider Sundt Air.
-From the outset the new service will be offered to customers on an ad-hoc basis while a project group will evaluate market needs for a scheduled trans-Atlantic service to New York or Miami after the initial three months, says Tor Bratli, Sundt Air president and CEO.
-Among our prime targets are exporters of Norwegian salmon to the US market as well as exporters of industrial products from Norway. We will also look into the market for imports to Scandinavia of US products, including notably perishables.
-At the same time we will also consider the market situations in other Nordic markets, not precluding the possibility of setting up flights from Sweden and Denmark as well, if warranted by customer demands.
-We are really open to all business cases, and while the situation in the market is indeed tough, our philosophy is to grasp opportunities in difficult times to be in place when markets recover.
The freighter is operated under an ACMI agreement with Air Atlanta, but is the projects proves a success, Sundt Air will seek an own AOC to operate the freighter itself.
