Jun 08, 2009 (newstodate): Finnair is returning services from Helsinki to Mumbai, India, from October 2009.
With the re-opening of flights on the route, Finnair will use the Airbus A330-300 aircraft, replacing the MD-11 earlier used and thus expecting to save up to 20 percent in fuel between the two destinations.
Finnair first launched flights to Mumbai, the carrier's second Indian destination, on June 26, 2007, initially offering up to six weekly rotations but down to four per week when services were suspended from May, 2009, due to low demand during the slack season.
Finnair launched operations to India from November 1, 2006, with three weekly flights to Delhi, later expanding to up to six weekly flights, and the Delhi operation has been maintained also during the close-down of the Mumbai flights.
Finnair will again be alone among Nordic airlines to provide direct flights to India as SAS will not resume services after closing down its short-lived route from Copenhagen, Denmark, from March, 2009.
