Jun 15, 2009 (newstodate): Libyan Airlines is expanding its route network with several new routes from this summer.
Effective from May 7, the carrier launched flights on a new route from Benghazi via Tripoli to Athens, Greece.
And from June 17, 2009, the carrier will add three weekly flights from Tripoli to Madrid, Spain, three weekly flights from Tripoli to Munich, Germany, three weekly flights from Tripoli to Istanbul, Turkey, as well as two weekly flights from Tripoli to Nigeria and Sudan.
The expansion is prompted by the growing fleet of new western-built aircraft, following on the lifting of the embargo against Tripoli.
The airline now has a fleet comprising two Airbus A300, three Airbus A320, five Bombardier CRJ900, two Fokker F27 and one Fokker F28.
Besides, the airline has ordered delivery of a further three A320, four A330-200 and four A350 aircraft.
