Jun 10, 2009 (newstodate): Iceland's Avion Aircraft Trading is reporting sound business despite the generally depressed aviation market.
-We cannot complain. Compared to many around us, we have managed pretty well so far, says Hafthor Hafsteinsson, Avion Aircraft Trading chairman.
-The A330F program is facing delivery deferrals like the B777F and B747-8F due to the severe economic downturn and collapsed cargo markets.
-We have not placed the eight A330-200F aircraft yet and are in talks with Airbus to delay deliveries like many other customers who have already done so, says Mr Hafsteinsson.
AAT placed its first order for six Airbus A330-200F in February, 2007, later adding an order for another two aircraft in May, 2007, following the finalization of a first leasing arrangement with Icelandair Cargo for four A330-200F aircraft.
Unless deferred, the first two Airbus A330-200F aircraft will be delivered in July and August, 2010, and the remaining six during 2011 and 2012.
In April 2008, Icelandair however canceled its order with AAT for the four Airbus A330-200F freighters, leaving the leasing company with a problem as the market was shaken by the general depression.
-On other fronts we have recently delivered one B747-400BDSF to Air Cargo Germany and the next one is due for delivery later this month. Next delivery we have is one B747-400BCF to Evergreen by the end of October this year, says Mr Hafsteinsson.
