Jun 22, 2009 (newstodate): Taking the generally depressed air cargo market into account, Lufthansa Cargo remains rather satisfied with its performance in Norway during this year's first half.
-We have managed to keep our share, even maybe increasing somewhat, in the Norwegian airfreight market that has also proved to perform relatively better than most other markets, including the other Nordic markets, says Kjell Westby, Lufthansa Cargo manager Norway.
-In the general cargo market, the performance has been satisfactory. We have seen a decline in Norway's volumes of shipments from the oil and gas industry, but it has not developed into anything like a deep recession. We can of course not know if our sustained position in the market builds on taking shares from competitors, or if the market has just remained relatively stable. In either case we remain well-positioned in the general cargo market.
-As for perishables, we have seen an increase in volumes, primarily in the direction of US market that is gaining in significance for Norway's salmon exporters. Industry estimates for continued growth in salmon exports are rather positive, and we are also expecting this traffic to increase further.
-Like our competitors, excluding Korean Air Cargo that operates wide-body freighters out of Oslo, we are trucking salmon shipments from Oslo to continental airports including Frankfurt, Amsterdam and Leipzig, and these feeder services work perfectly well for Lufthansa Cargo, says Mr Westby.
