Jun 11 ,209 (newstodate): The Estonian airfreight market, like most other markets, is tough in 2009, and competition has stiffened accordingly.
-It is not that the market is not there. Volumes are indeed down, compared to last year, but there are still cargo shipments to be moved. Only it requires much more work to secure a deal, says Kristin Mottus, Schenker AS Estonia.
-We have to call around to get rates, and most often it takes much work to secure the best rate for our clients. And as the market has declined, competition among forwarders have increased to a very high degree. We have to fight hard for even the smallest shipment.
-We use mostly carriers like Lufthansa, Finnair and CSA, and we do little business with Estonian Air as they offer a very limited selection of destinations which is not attractive for us. Actually, we almost never use Estonian Air as we have had quite some unsatisfactory experiences with them.
-But even in times like these, we remain optimistic. We do make business - we only have to work very hard and fight vigorously for it, says Ms Mottus.
