Jun 24, 2009 (newstodate): Boeing has again been forced to postpone the first flight and first deliveries of its Dreamliner.
Only few days ago, Boeing still maintained that the first Boeing 787 flight was due before the end of this month, but the company now admits to structural problems in the area within the side-of-body section of the aircraft.
-Obviously we are all anxious to see this airplane fly, but it's important that it flies when it's ready to fly and when we have high confidence in what we can accomplish with it in flight tests, said Scott Carson, Boeing Commercial Airplanes chief executive.
Boeing now says a revised schedule for first flight and first deliveries will be presented after some weeks.
The Boeing 787 was originally due to fly for the first time by the end of August 2007, with first delivery to launch customer ANA in May 2008.
ANA was fast in its response to the repeated delay of the Boeing 878 first flight: -We are disappointed that the first flight of the 787 will be postponed, and urge Boeing to specify the schedule for the program as a whole as quickly as possible, the company said in a release.
So far Boeing has landed 910 orders for the Dreamliner, but after the earlier delays to the program a total of 59 cancellations have been agreed.
