Jun 23, 2009 (newstodate): Russian and EU customs are now on speaking terms, allowing the parties to communicate electronically and share a joint database.
The decision to work out a solution for the Russian and various EU countries' customs to communicate was part of the Road Map agreed upon in May 2005.
Since work, efforts have been invested in defining common standards and establish systems compatibility, and a milestone was reached in October, 2008, as the Russian customs launched a pilot test, followed by the phased start-up of the joint system from January 2009.
