Jun 03, 2009 (newstodate): Swedish cargo GSA Scandinavian AirBridge is seeing tough times and strong competition in the GSA market.
Scandinavian AirBridge is providing Icelandair Cargo - its sole airline customer - with GSA services in the Swedish market.
-Since the cancellation of the Icelandair Cargo freighter services in Sweden, we rely on trucking shipments into the carrier's European freighter hub at Liege, in addition to selling belly cargo space on Icelandair's passenger aircraft in Sweden, says Paer Wahlstedt, Scandinavian AirBridge Managing Director.
-This is obviously an extremely tough position to rely on only one carrier in a depressed market, where rates are at a low and competition is at it highest.
-Still, there is a demand for Icelandair Cargo's product in the Swedish market, but we must of course fight hard to land customers as we are competing with other products that share many similarities.
-Like everyone else we hope trends will turn for the better soon, but the coming summer will of course hardly provide the healing of the market. So we have to look for the market to move again from the autumn, and we have some projects under evaluation that might bring some recovery. But generally speaking, times are demanding and we must remain comparatively satisfied with what existing business we have, says Mr Wahlstedt.
