Jun 02, 2009 (newstodate): The Latvian airline airBaltic will launch nonstop flights between Riga and the second largest city in Estonia, Tartu, from July 3, 2009.
The carrier will operate the route between Riga and Tartu four times a week with Fokker 50 aircraft, becoming the first airline to offer flights on an international route from Tartu airport in southern Estonia.
In March 2009, the European Regional Development Fund decided to support the modernisation of five regional airports in Estonia, including Tartu where plans are to turn Tartu Airport into an international airport from mid-September, 2009, after completion of a new passenger terminal.
airBaltic will provide Tartu passengers with onward connections to destinations on the network via its hub, Riga Airport.
