May 22, 2009 (newstodate): West Atlantic, formed by the merger in 2008 of Swedens West Air Sweden and the UK carrier Atlantic Airlines, is reporting brisk business despite the current general downturn in global air cargo.
West Atlantic has a combined fleet of 41 BAE Systems ATP freighters, one ATR-72, six Lockheed Electra and two Bombardier CRJ200PF aircraft.
- The ATP simply provides the most cost effective kilo/nm costs of any aircraft in its class, whilst our CRJ and Lockheed fleets offer excellent niche market solutions, says Russell Ladkin, West Atlantic Sales & Operations Director.
- We have in effect been working together as a single entity since last November and are now focusing on streamlining our business activities to take advantage of the opportunities presented by the amalgamation. The legal process of the tie-up is expected to be completed shortly, more or less on schedule, says Mr Ladkin.
