May 28, 2009 (newstodate): The delivery scheme of new Bombardier CRJ aircraft for Estonian Air has been revised. But it will not create any operational problems, the carrier says.
The carrier is to receive three ex-factory CRJ900 NextGen to replace most of its current fleet of six Boeing 737 aircraft.
The aircraft for Estonian Air are comprised by the order by the SAS Group after the negotiations with Bombardier over a settlement of the issue of the grounded SAS Q400 fleet in late 2007.
-According to the preliminary plan, the idea was to deliver new aircraft one by one in rotation: the first one at the end of this month, the second in the middle and third one by the end of June, says Ilona Eskelinen, Estonian Air PR Director.
-According to the recent decision the three new aircraft will be delivered to Estonia all at same time after the third aircraft is complete and all three aircraft have passed the prescribed test flights.
-The first aircraft in Estonian Air colors is complete and has successfully gone through test flights, while the second and third aircraft are still in production.
-The delayed delivery of the three aircraft will however not affect our operations, because we can use our current fleet until the arrival of their delivery.
-The reason for the delay was that it is a big transaction and the financial and economic crisis had toughened the conditions of such deals, says Ms Eskelinen.
